Everything We Know About The Witcher 4

Introduction

The Witcher 4 is officially in development at CD Projekt Red. While the official title hasn’t been confirmed, it’s currently known by the codename The Witcher: Polaris. Since its announcement in 2022, updates on its progress have been steadily trickling in.

Promising to be "bigger, better, and greater" than both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, Polaris will introduce new gameplay elements and mechanics, steering away from simply being The Witcher 3 reimagined. CD Projekt Red has confirmed that it will be the first installment in a new "AAA RPG trilogy," marking the start of an ambitious multi-game saga.

With The Witcher 3 hailed as one of the best RPGs of all time, the prospect of a fresh entry in the series is thrilling. For a complete breakdown of what we know so far about The Witcher 4: Polaris, read on.

On October 4, 2022, CDPR shared an update on The Witcher 4, revealing its internal codename: The Witcher: Polaris. The game is in pre-production and marks the "beginning of a new saga," with plans for two additional games to form a new AAA RPG trilogy.

Polaris will utilise Unreal Engine 5, moving away from CDPR’s proprietary RED engine used in previous games like The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. CDPR confirmed that the research phase for the game is complete, and the team is focusing on pre-production while also supporting Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.

As reported by IGN, joint-CEO Adam Kiciński noted the release date is at least three years away, citing the transition to Unreal Engine 5 and the need for additional effort to develop new technology.
